Port Dickson Background

Port Dickson or its popular name as PD by local people situated in the state of Negeri Sembilan (Nine States)  about 90 km or over than an hour driving from Kuala Lumpur. Port Dickson is the nearest beach from Kuala Lumpur besides Morib which situated in States of Selangor. It's become main attractions for the local and foreign tourists, especially during the weekend due to the number of Hotel and Resorts available also its 18 km series of beach. Besides that the Port Dickson local authority provided essential public amenities such as public bath room and huge number restaurant or food stall that you won't get in other beach in Malaysia.

Port Dickson gets its name from Sir John Frederic Dickson the British Senior Officer, who has been stationed in Straits Settlements during the end of 19 centuries. Before this place was developed, Port Dickson was known by the name of Cape by Malay people due to its position in a small bay, while China and India people, named this place as Alang or Coal because the bay is located close to an island famous for its Arang production and supply to the nearby area . Due of development of Port Dickson so progress rapidly as industrial areas and urban areas, Federated States Secretary Strait, Sir John Frederick Dickson gazette Port Dickson as a strategic port and also make it a living and rest place for British officials and farmers. The development of the Port that also allows British people to take advantage in business such as spices, tea and silk. Activities of a busy trade between the two countries featured merchant Straits of Malacca as a place suitable and practical stop because Port Dickson position in the mid-journey for the merchant ship.

To complement the effectiveness of this new port in the future, a 39km long railway was proposed to connect the Port Dickson and the Sungai Ujung which is now known as Seremban was built in 1891. Plan was drafted to allow various types of goods such as spices, rice, cassava transported via railway to the river port of Sungai Ujung. Furthermore, that the railways and sea ports play an important role in developing export trade to the tin mines of the Seremban.

To facilitate the construction of this runway, the British brings in labor from India. With persistent efforts that the runway was completed and inaugurated by the Secretary of Federated States, Sir John Frederick Dickson. With the opening of the railway, the British also renamed the place from the Cape to Port Dickson. Since then, the name was a reference to the public in Malaysia but all over the world.

Today the development of Port Dickson has evolved rapidly from the tourism industry. There are seven beaches in Port Dickson which can be selected to relax, sunbathe or swim. Each beach has its own uniqueness.

 

 

Port Dickson Beach

Port Dickson has the longest beaches in Malaysia, as far as 18 km, it includes public beaches and beaches own by private sector that operate Hotel and Resorts. Not all beaches is suitable for bathing or swimming, this due of the appearance of the beach terrain and the quality of sea water. However, visitors have many options to choose according to their activity.

Getting To Port Dickson

  • KTM Komuter - Take KTM Kommuter from any station in Kuala Lumpur to Seremban station, from Seremban bus station located about 10 minutes walking, take a cityliner bus to Port Dickson bus station, bus fare should be RM4.00 or take a cab RM40 one way or RM100 for daily use from Seremban bus station.
  • Driving - use Plus highway towards to Seremban, just follow the signboard to new Port Dickson highway.

 Best time to go during weak days or overnight at Port Dickson.

 

Teluk Kemang Beach

Teluk Kemang Beach in Port DicksonThe distance of Teluk Kemang Beach is 0.6 km, its the busiest beach in Port Dickson. Teluk Kemang gets its name from a tree that is found by 5 family members who came from Selangor. In early year Teluk Kemang beach was full of deep swamp and forest. The five family member expoilted this area whereby the found a lot of  tree known as Pokok Kemang, they decide to name the places as Teluk Kemang because the huge nember of Kemang tree found in the area.

It is a place for visitors prefer this because local facilities such as tents provided for picnics, and public bathroom space parking area. Besides food stalls, clothes stalls and boat rental facilities for water and game were provided by local residents Port Dickson.

 

 

Tanjung Gemuk Beach

From this beach visitor can see the floating chalet belongs to Legends Water Resorts. In main highway several seafood restaurants available for those looking for local delicacies. Suitable for those wanna to get tanned and relax.

Saujana Beach

saujana-beach-port-dicksonPreviouly know as Port Dickson beach or 4th miles beach. Its name was changed to Saujana Beach in 2001 when beaches in Port Dickson were renamed. This 0.6 km long beach strecting from Avillion to Klana Lodge. The name of Saujana beach is given based on its location that is near to Saujana Hill, which has its own unique history.

Besides that few food stall, mini Haji Samuri Sate restaurant, mini bazaar, internet cafe and fishing gear stall available here.

Sirusa Beach

Sirusa Beach Port DicksonSirusa beach situated just besides Saujana Beach, this beach has been used by local fisherman to keep their boat and fishing gear. If you lucky you will able to see the fisherman landing their fish catch every evening. This beach totally not suitable for swimming and tanning.

 Thare are few grilled fish restaurant and also a camp site for those who like to overnight in the camp.

 

 

 

 

  

Tanjung Biru or Blue Lagoon Beach

Blue Lagoon Beach in Port dicksonThis U shape beach situated towards to the end series of beach in Port Dickson. Surrounding by Beremba tree, this small beach very quiet and a bit isolated compare with others most probaly the best places to relax while reading a book or get tanned. Public bath room also available here with minimum RM1.00 charges.
